September 2006
Well, the rain held off, although, we would have been fully covered in any event thanks to our smart marquee! Thank you to Robert and Christine MacLachlan who kindly loaned their marquee for the evening. As usual, it was great to see you all – fully clothed! We were happy with the evening and enjoyed ourselves; we hope you did too. Thank you to all members who supported us especially to those who introduced their partners and friends. The only disappointment to the evening was the lack of camera action! We had prepared the camera ready for action but we were all so busy cooking, bar tending and generally being social that we completely forgot! So, no ‘official’ evidence about what really went on, just vicious rumours about red wine being thrown between our female members! Thanks once again to all of you who supported this year’s summer BBQ.
The team would like to give a warm welcome to our new members, who joined during the month of August. They are Kirsty Sharatt, Phil Hayles and Debbie Terry. We look forward to helping you with your fitness aims and goals.
Babies, Babies and more babies!
Congratulations to Alex Burnet and husband Jake. Alex, who was member of the month for August, gave birth to baby India. They are both doing fine, in fact Alex and India have been spotted walking around the town, already focused on fitness!
Congratulations to Michael Thomas and his wife. Michael’s wife gave birth to baby Oliver who weighed 5lbs, both are doing fine, as too is Michael.
Congratulations to Gill & Richard Webb who are expecting their first baby. Gill informs us that her first three months have not been the most enjoyable of her life but as time has passed she seems to be less queasy!
Congratulations to our very own Ric and his wife Louise who are also expecting their first baby. Ric assures us he / she will be doing full press ups within six months!
Nicky Cooper – she’s the quiet one who remains focused, is always polite and never wants to be a nuisance! Nicky has completed her fitness entry test to become an RAF officer; she achieved this with flying colours. Excellent commitment shown throughout her membership, well done.
Jacqui Ponting – years ago some members believed you had to be a runner to become member of the month! Jacqui has worked extremely hard to improve her running and has done fantastically well.
Nigel Ind – has worked phenomenally hard in his rehabilitation programme and deserves all the recognition he gets. This month was ‘check up’ time with his surgeon, who congratulated Nigel on his brilliant improvement. Nigel is not quite at the end of his rehabilitation, but with this continued commitment he will gain full strength in his knee.
"Most people get ahead during the time that others waste. Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently."
As usual the summer months prove challenging for lots of you to maintain a consistent exercise programme. Well, as the kids get back to school and focus on their new year maybe it’s time for you to have a fitness assessment, set some new challenges, have a new exercise programme or perhaps take a class and go, go, go! Time away from an exercise programme doesn’t have to be negative; in fact, it can be a fresh start. A new approach often reinvigorates members to step up the level higher than previously achieved. We want to help, please do ask.September running club sessions will take place on the 13th and 27th
So, are you running? On Sunday 8th October, the annual Rotary Club horseless team event is taking place. You can choose a 5 mile route or 9 mile route and we are hopeful that this year we can gather an enthusiastic team for male, female and mixed teams. Please contact us via email if you are interested in this fun and worthwhile event.
To achieve your dreams, remember your ABC’s
S – stop procrastinating
T – take control of your destiny
U – understand yourself in order to better understand others
Thank you for your support. Some of you will have received (by email) a generic poster encouraging you to inform your ‘other’ clubs and associations of our existence. As a business, we aim to move forward somewhat carefully, ensuring our new members are ‘the right members’. The criteria is simple, I think we all appreciate when members wipe down the equipment and when they acknowledge your arrival. They may even encourage a short conversation! Members who are respectful of what music is blaring out and ask other members’ approval before changing it! We don’t want more members: we want more members like you! Thank you.
After hours of training, weeks of trepidation, hundreds of questions it is time our petrified gym assistants were let loose. In June’s newsletter I reminded you of the gym assistants and their training syllabus. Some of you may already have met the team, it may have felt as though they were stalking you, or you might be excused for thinking who the ‘Duracell charged’ individual was. Well, let me remind you once again: our five enthusiastic gym assistants are all current members, who clearly remember the day they came through our door somewhat nervous of being a member of a ‘fitness club’. Their time at the club and their experiences have led them to achieve a variety of goals and they simply want to help you to achieve yours. Photos of the team and a brief background will soon be on a notice board along with a course syllabus. This will give you the opportunity to understand what they know! Please support them and be patient as we iron out any teething problems.
Some of you will have noticed the increase number of joint training sessions. These are proving extremely positive. ‘It helps my commitment’ and ‘sometimes one to one can be a bit intense!’ If you would like to train with a partner please ask a trainer about the benefits and how these sessions could work for you.
