Running Club review
As summer departs and the nights draw in we wave goodbye to our Wednesday evening running club.  For those of you who took part I can hear the sighs of relief!  This year, the running club sessions followed a theme which was successful a number of years ago.  We took ownership (along with the local teenagers) of St. Aldams mead playing fields, it was a perfect venue for introducing a number of ‘new runners’ as well as allowing those with a little more experience to develop their running fitness.  We ran in the sweltering heat of July as well as a couple of wet nights in August!  I would like to thank all participants in making this year’s running club a great success.  Not only did you all excel in your running but the camaraderie and support for our newer runners was fantastic.  Unfortunately, the dark evenings mean we cannot continue the sessions.  So, until next year, it just leaves me to ask: when are we having the end of running club celebration?

Message from Ronnie Hodges gym assistant
Would you like some company to run/jog/walk Filands 2.7 miles? Would you like to try but think you can’t do it?  We could start with a shorter route and progress to make Filands your goal.  Exercising outside will help time pass by and you will be back at the gym before you know it.  You will inspire many others in and out of the gym with your efforts and gain in strength for yourself.  Who knows, you may even achieve ‘most improved runner of the month’!  What are you waiting for? Let’s do it together.  Ronnie Hodges.

Yoga & Thai Chi
The team have arranged for training in both Yoga and Tai Chi classes.  So keep your eyes peeled for up and coming classes.

Blood Pressure week at Focus on Fitness
Maintaining a good blood pressure reading is a major factor in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and strokes.  That is why we have decided to hold a Blood Pressure Awareness week.  Commencing on Monday October 16, our blood pressure measuring equipment will be on hand for us to check you current reading.

What is Blood Pressure?
Systolic or first number - is the pressure within the artery wall when the heart contracts, therefore forcing blood around the body
Diastolic or second number - is the pressure within the artery wall when the heart relaxes.

Blood pressure is affected by a number of factors, so to ensure a reasonable level of accuracy you need your reading to be taken before exercise.  We are happy to extend this service to non-members, so wives, parents, friends etc are welcome. Booking for non-members is advisable.

Horseless Team Event - Good luck and let us know how you get on!

To achieve your dreams, remember your ABC’s

V – Visualise it
W – Want it more than anything
X – accelerate your efforts

Gym Circuit gathers a following!
The Friday morning gym circuit class (10.30 – 11.30) is proving a popular class.  For those of you who have never attended this mixed ability class just BOOK and come and enjoy the fun, banter and of course a little work out with a trainer and some friends.

Joint sessions – partner up!
Some of you will have noticed the increase number of joint training sessions.  These are proving extremely positive.  ‘It helps my commitment’ and ‘sometimes one to one can be a bit intense!’  If you would like to train with a partner and a trainer please ask about the benefits and how these sessions could work for you.
