July 2007
Following a long period of hard work and brain swelling learning Ronnie has returned to us as a fully qualified personal trainer and sports therapist. Congratulations Ronnie and here she is with a few words for us:
“Well I am very happy to be back and thank you for all your good wishes and ‘checking up on me’ calls. We started the course with 22, a few changes along the way with 10 finishing the course and only 9 completing the full diploma. Looking forward to my certificate joining the boys’ on display. It was a steep learning curve getting the brain to work again and being in a huge gym with over 100 pieces of CV equipment and 4000 members. Quite a contrast to Focus on Fitness; still this has made me appreciate here so much more. Having seen their trainers working the clients, you are so lucky to have the talent and skills the boys have to offer. I have a lot to learn from them and I feel sure that I will complement the team. So if you want the female touch with personal training or massage then book me up and I will be more than happy to put my new skills into practise.”
Debbie Shipp – Well done on losing ½ stone within the last month through a fantastic effort with exercise and nutrition.
Sylvia Powell – Sylvia has worked very hard to increase both leg strength and flexibility; the road is long but keep up the good work,
Vanessa Dunne and Alison Cowie - Well done girls for completing the Westonbirt 10km run both with great times.
Gill Webb - Back into the swing of things, breezing around the Race for Life course in Swindon. Welcome back Gill!
Margaret Petkovic - Hard work and lots of lunges helped Margaret find the leg strength to cycle 64km around parts of France. Tres bien Margaret!
Aileen Bates - Aileen heads off in July to complete the great Glen walk; best of luck Aileen
Miles Hider- A personal best time around the Fosse Way 6 mile run in 42mins and 58 seconds! Fantastic effort.
Michael Thomas - Recovering after a recent back operation. Get well soon.
Ian Wigmore - Battling away, working very hard 3 sessions per week and great work towards a weight loss target. Well done

-The Trial walkers team’s gruelling hard work and ruthless training programmes will be finally put to the test on Saturday the 14th July. These guys have 30hrs to complete 62miles or if you prefer 100km! The very best of luck to you all.
When was the last time you had one? Remember, assessments are a fantastic way to measure all improvements and also be specific in the areas that need work. Overall, a great opportunity to keep you on track for your goals. See any trainer to book yours today.
Hog Roast
Are you coming? Lists are up and around the gym now. Please scribble your name up to let us know. Remember the hog roast is free for members and guests will be charged at £5. A bar will be available throughout the evening serving wine beer and soft drinks at a very reasonable cost! Please come along, let’s make it a great evening.
On the 30th June Andy hosted a Saturday morning of full varied and complete exercise classes including circuits, pilates and aerobics. We had a super response to this day with 12 eager beavers taking part. The day was in aid of the trial walker Oxfam sponsorship and raised £260. A huge pat on the back to the following people: Tracy Osbourne, Mary Beresford-Pierse, Marie Coupland, Debbie Ship, Julia Ponton, Kate Millar, Tess Clark, Nina Foord, Rukshi Watson, Sarnia Wilson, Margaret Petkovic and Ian Campbell. Well done to everyone. This is something that we will be looking to run more often in the future so please keep your eyes on the notice board for details.
A cold wet night in January, remember it?
Let me take you back to the evening of January 3rd. It was the night Ric held his ‘Breakthrough into 2007’ seminar. Soms Thai Cafe played host to almost 30 people, naturally some more vocal than others. The evening encouraged all participants to consider the previous year and, more importantly, to focus on the new year. Everyone was encouraged to make 2007 their best year ever, so perhaps now, as we turn the corner into the latter half of the year we should all consider if we’re on course to achieve our goals. How successful have you been? Some of you most definitely have been,. Members of the month and members in focus highlight health, fitness and diet goals. But, what about non-fitness related goals? New job, new hobby, time out for yourself, a new skill? As that part-time artist, Picasso, said ”I must learn something new everyday”. In short, it is not too late, if you still have the same goals on your to-do list as you did in January, talk to us, we may be able to help.
If you're proactive, you don't have to wait for circumstances or other people to create perspective expanding experiences. You can consciously create your own.
