January 2007

Members of the year 2006
Happy New Year to you all!  We sincerely hope you all enjoyed the festive season and, yes, a glass of something.  Let’s start by reminding ourselves of last year’s annual Christmas drinks and members of the year evening.  Once again the evening was well supported (thank you) and the team had the pleasure of reciting the year’s successes, of which there were many.  Our members of the year for 2006 proved that they had gone that extra mile in committing to their health and fitness goals.  Joint 1st place was shared between Sheila Clemett & Nigel Ind.  After hours of prevarication there really was nothing to separate them.  Nigel, who began the year tentatively following a terrible injury, had set himself the goal of getting back on the ski slopes and was successful.  On his return Nigel experienced another catastrophic injury and his slow, long journey of rehabilitation began once again.  To end the year Nigel was running further than he had ever run and echoed the words of his surgeon: “miraculous recovery from a catastrophic injury”.  Well done Nigel.

Sheila was not going to be outdone in her quest to become member of the year. She decided on the 4th of January 06 that this was going to be her year, her goals ranged from weight loss, shape change, improve her running so she could run outside (comfortably), enter different events and her commitment would
simply be to attend and give it her best five days per week.  It was soon the end of January, mid February, mid March and she had arrived at the tipping point. “Not coming in doesn’t even enter my mind. I’m in the habit, my family know and are supportive”.  Sheila went on to be successful in ALL her quests an absolutely fantastic effort.

Mark Clark was 3rd place member of the year; his efforts, too, had been outstanding in 2006.  Mark, a long term hip problem sufferer, had eventually succumbed to going under the knife.  His personal preparation in strengthening his body was excellent, as someone who just potters along, rarely goes two days without a visit and on occasions makes two short visits a day.  A deserving third place.

So what do you want from 2007?  We think a positive place is to start is with the adage ‘he who has health has everything’!  But what else?  New job?  New home?  New hobby?  New shape?  New habits?  Or are you happy with your lot?  We’re not sure about helping with buying your new home, or acquiring a
new job, but if you have a desire to take your health and fitness to a new level please just SHOUT!  We look forward to assisting however we can.

New members for December
With all the festivities taking place Jacob Clark, Richard Wells and Nigel Pyman all decided to start their new fitness regimes.  Welcome to our club. We think starting in December was a good idea!  Please shout if you have any queries.

NEW FOR 2007

Welcome Ronnie Hodges
Some of you have already been made aware of our new recruit!  Ronnie, a team on a permanent basis.  The gym assistant course which Ronnie attended and passed successfully allowed her to experience a slice of what it’s like to be a member of staff.  Her passion for helping members was clear from the outset, coming in during lunch breaks in a job which already saw her working 12 hours a day and sometimes more.  Ronnie’s role at Focus on Fitness becomes slightly different to previous members of the team.  As a Trainee Fitness Trainer Ronnie will shortly be attending the training college Premier www.premierglobal.co.uk to acquire a certificate in Personal Training.  Until then she will be using her
current skills as a gym assistant to support you.  Ronnie’s personal fitness experiences make her a valuable asset to the team, she has completed numerous races, and runs including the New York marathon where she supported another runner!  You’ll hear more from Ronnie next month.  Good
luck Ronnie.
