Well done Trail walkers!
Team Focus on Fitness would like to thank all who sponsored us for the trail walker event. It certainly helped us cross the finish line, knowing so many people supported us! The event in total took 27 hours including stops for fresh socks!
Ginny’s girls also walked the route in an amazing time of 24 hours and 46 minutes. More details and photos of their adventures can be found on the members’ notice board in the downstairs suite.
The training we had done really helped us complete the challenge from Petersfield to Brighton which had us going up and down hills pretty much all the way. The route, which was originally designed as the Queen’s Gurkha training run, put us through what they would go through as a new recruit testing our willpower and mental strength plus overall determination to overcome this gruelling course. So far we have raised over £2.000 which is our target fundraising amount. The money will be split equally between the Queen’s Gurkha Regiment and Oxfam.
Also a big thank you to all the support from our crews during the, at times, “pressured moments” and spurring us on to finish; in particular the words from my pal and member Jonny Davey 20 miles from the finish and 2am in the morning. “You have two options: you either walk on your own or I’m going to attach the tow rope to you and pull you back.” That seemed to work!
On a personal note the whole experience has been a huge inspiration to me - an average drop out rate of 45% per event and we made it. It just goes to show you can achieve what you want to achieve. We are all different shapes and sizes and different fitness levels but it boils down to that one question: how much do you want it and what are you prepared to do for it to happen?
If you haven’t already sponsored us for the event, but would like to pledge some well done funds to the cause, you can do this either by completing the sponsorship forms in the upstairs suite or online at www.bmycharity.com/teamfocusonfitness - Andy.
Ginny Parfitt , Vanessa Dunne, Vanessa Fortnam-king, Phil Taylor, Miles Hider and Emma Edwards – 62 miles(100km) in under 30 hours, need I say more!
Are you coming? Lists are up and around the gym now. Please scribble your name up to let us know. Remember the hog roast is free for members and guests will be charged at £5.00. A bar will be available throughout the evening serving wine beer and soft drinks at a very reasonable cost! Please come along let’s make it a great evening.
Nina Foord. For winning the Nett prize at the Minchinhampton golf club championships during inclement weather.
Basil Miles. Well done on fantastic results during his last re-assessment achieving improvements in each of the disciplines.
Tony Watson. Tony would agree that flexibility isn’t his strong point but in his last assessment it showed that in just two months he has achieved a 5 cm improvement in the flexibility of his lower back and hamstrings. Great work Tony. Keep stretching!
Nesma Leach. All the hard work is paying off for Nesma achieving great results in her recent re-assessment.
The Chippenham 5km river run took place on 11th July. The running club participants, along with Paul, represented Focus on Fitness. They were: Catherine Bonner, Michelle Ellis, Jeanna Ind, Nigel Ind, Alison Marsh and Paula Hall. Details of your times can be found at reception.
We talked a little about re-assessments last month and so far there have been some great results. Remember, assessments are a fantastic way to measure all improvements and also be specific in the areas that need work. Each re-assessment takes just 30-40 minutes and could save you valuable workout time by keeping you on track towards your goal. See any trainer to book yours today.
We would like to welcome our new members for the month of July. They are David Pryce, Ebony Pryce, Sarah New, and summer member Jonny Davey. We very much hope that we can help you all towards your health and fitness goals. If you are interested in your son or daughter joining us for a summer membership whilst on holiday from school or university, we would be very happy to help. Please enquire for more details.
Some of you will have read the proposed parking restrictions for the town, and that these include Station Road. It is being proposed that there will be 17 parking bays in the area where most of you currently park (outside the club and further up opposite the ambulance and fire station). The restricted parked will see a no-return within two hours, from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Naturally, we are concerned with how this may affect you, but we have been monitoring the current parking patterns and are surprisingly hopeful that the restrictions may favour Focus on Fitness members. There are a number of cars which are parked at 9am and are still there at 4.30pm. Having asked the district and county councils to create a way to assign some specific parking for members I was told that this was not possible. The bays on Station Road are going to be free, therefore it would be illegal for the council to sell spaces them to us. As for the main car park, we could buy season tickets but they would only cover two registrations, so not really worthwhile. Fingers crossed the changes are positive for us.
The Lea 10 km (ish) had its annual running on the 15th July. Member David Wreathall organised the event this year and by all accounts it was another great success.
