April 2007
As the British summertime appears and the clocks spring forward let’s hope the majority of you continue to strive in your exercise programmes. As we head towards longer days it’s great to hear a more positive approach to life. It’s amazing, a little bit of sun, perhaps some gardening and all of a sudden we seem to focus on what we can do!
Let’s begin by bringing you right up to date with up and coming goings on and events at your fitness club;
Rachel Tanner will soon be embarking on her training programme, which will prepare her for her bike ride across India! She will cover 330 miles in 5 days. More news about her challenge in the next few months. Our advice - remember the padded shorts!
Our trekkers have endured a few weeks of training, spending Sunday mornings walking around the Wiltshire countryside. They are up to 15 miles now. More info about Andy’s fund raising ‘Spring Wellbeing Day’ over page.
Our new exercise programme is available at reception. This new timetable includes both lunchtime and evening Tai Chi and Chi Yoga classes - please remember to book. We will soon be posting our running club summer schedule.
We will soon be announcing the date for this year’s summer BBQ. This year may be a little different as we celebrate 10 years in Malmesbury. Keep your eyes peeled.
We are considering running a 1-day first aid course from the club. If you are interested in attending this valuable programme, please be sure to tell a member of the team or email us. info@focusonfitness.uk.com Re. 1st Aid.
Jeanna Ind – Well done for a fantastic start to 2007. Jeanna is following a programme of classes, gym work and outdoor exercise. An excellent combination, keep it up.
Liz Lockstone – One time marathon runner has also taken 2007 by storm. Regular attendance and slow but steady increases have ensured Liz remains focused on her goals. Brilliant.
Eloise Gordon & Marie Coupland – who completed the Bath ½ marathon, Eloise ran her first ever ½ marathon in 2hours 03, a great first attempt. Well done to you both.
Judy Maxfield – Judy has pushed her training in all areas working very hard in classes training sessions and increasing her running. Well done, great effort.
Good Luck
Paul Davies and Chris Hazell who are running in this year’s London Marathon. Just think chaps, these will be the last 26miles for a long time!
Linda Herron who recently joined us has shown great commitment in improving her health. Linda, a golfer, has not been able to play 18 holes of golf for a number of years. This was rectified in the middle of March when she played her first 18 holes. Well done Linda, now we’ll have to work on your handicap!
Aaron Bewley – Spent 2 months in Canada completing an intensive Snowboarding instructors course so eyes on the notice board for details of lesson costs! Well done Aaron.
Kevin Bartlett and Andy MaGlashan have teamed up to complete a marathon on the rowing machines on the day of the London marathon. This ‘mad’ event will take somewhere between 3.30 – 4.00 hours to complete. So if you were wondering where the nice soft seat pads on the rowers came from look no further then Kevin, thanks Kevin! They are considering their chosen charity, but have always suggested they are not comfortable in asking for money. There will be some Andy and Kevin ‘money buckets’ around the club if you would like to support them and I’m sure they will be grateful.
Some of you will remember our gym assistant Gill Webb who recently had baby Elliot. Well, Gill is ready to return to exercise and naturally Elliot will be joining her! Her plan is to walk around Malmesbury most mornings; she insists this will be a ‘meaningful’ walk! If anyone would like to join her she is more than happy to have the company and it might help motivate you while we’re blessed with this wonderful weather.
We would like to welcome our new members for the month of March. They are Trish Munro, Pam Selwood and Sarah Perry. We wish you all the best in achieving your desired goals and will do all we can to help. If in doubt please shout!
CONGRATULATIONS
Laura Crago on the birth of her son Christopher Michael
Eloise Gordon who recently became engaged to Nick
Good luck to members Phil Taylor and Hannah Connolly who are getting married in May
Be aware the direct debit system is not up and running just yet, please bear with us (me – Ric)!
